♥ Letter from our President, Ro Vairo Rosen -- Jan. 2012

Dear Chi Sigs,
From all accounts, the October meeting and coffee hour were a success and lots of fun. I was sorry to have missed it, but I was in Eastern Europe on a long planned trip. I got to see Dracula’s castle in Romania, but missed seeing everyone at Chi Sig.

In the newsletter, there are pictures of the event. You can see there were various classes who came, including sisters celebrating their 50th year! Chi Sigs always look great. We were very happy that Terry Cook, a long time community activist and former Albany Tulip Queen, attended this year. Also, the group decided to honor Cindy Rydell ’65, a sister no longer with us but known to many of us, by awarding the Chi Sigma Theta scholarship this year in her memory. There was, of course, singing of our Chi Sig songs.

There was discussion of plans for the Centennial. We really do need to work on our 100th year celebration. I know that 2014 seems far away, but we’ll be there before we know it. I can hardly believe it’s been a year already since we began talking about this in last year’s newsletter. We had a meeting in November of a small group of sisters who live in the Capital District to further our plans. Here are some of our thoughts:

•We are definitely intent on having a celebration in 2014. We would hold it the first Saturday or the first weekend in June 2014.

•We especially want your INPUT on how best to celebrate. We can consider a number of things—one party like our 75th, or a weekend of activities including some that partners or spouses might enjoy.

•We need help contacting sisters and now have better lists of alums than ever before thanks to Loida Vera Cruz from the alumni office. She was brought to meet with us in November by Kay Hotaling (Chi Sig ’67), University Alumni President. Loida has given us access to all their sorority alum lists.

•We’re looking for some of you to help reach out to sisters in your class or your area, to come to the celebration as well as to work on it. A number of you have already expressed interest and you will hear from us.

Following this letter is a brief survey with a number of these questions. Please take a moment to complete the survey and send it to us. You can respond in hard copy to:
Donna B. O’Higgins
6113 Laguna Drive West
Miami Beach, FL 33141
Or email Donna to dbohiggins@gmail.com. (Just start your answers with the question number; you don't need to put in all the text.) Please let us know how to make this celebration something you would enjoy and be likely to attend.

Hope you all had a good and, not too exhausting, holiday season and you will have a wonderful 2012. Our next meeting will be October 13, 2012 in the Alumni House. Looking forward to seeing more of you in the future.

Yours in XEO,
Ro Vairo Rosen ’68

♥ ΧΣΘ scholarship applications are due May 1, 2012

Information and downloadable application here or download the application from the DOWNLOADS page. We need sisters' donations to keep the scholarship going. Here's how.

♥ We really need your email.

To save $$$$, we are now sending newletters and other notices electronically. This means we really really need YOUR UP-TO-DATE EMAIL address for the mass-mailing list!!! Also, if you live outside the USA, we have to send your newsletter electronically, so send us your emails. When you send your email to our Webmaster kathleen@haymountain.com, tell us whether you want your address posted on the website or just on the private mailing list.

♥ Connect with ΧΣΘ on facebook

Facebook has a new Group feature, that should make it easier for us to connect. I think you can ask to join by searching "Chi Sigma Theta." If that doesn't work, "friend" Kathleen Hay, and I'll add you to the XEO fb group.

♥ Are you LinkedIn?

Terry Gross has started a group for sisters connecting with LinkedIn. We already have 6 members. Search "Chi Sigma Theta Sorority."

♥ Please keep your addresses updated with the U

Chi Sig now uses University records for our Newsletter mailing labels. So please DO inform the University's Alumni Office of any changes of address. BTW, newsletters to these sisters have been returned: Mary Dambrosio, Barbie Heit, Caroline Sever, Irene Agrawal, Dolores Corcoran, and Mary Francello. If you're in touch with any of these sisters, tell them to please update their contact information with the U.

♥ See Photos from our 2010 reunion.
