Class News 2005

1926

Mary Morrisey Heverin was 101 years old last Easter Sunday. Mary lives in an independent living facility with the help of one daughter. She loved Chi Sig and had many sisters who became her lifelong friends as well as having a legacy in her niece, Mary Eileen Doane Finley, 1955.

1941

Marilynn Groff lives in a life care community in Tampa. She does a lot of volunteer work and keeps in touch with Beth Donahue Collins and Ann Gregory McGuiness. She hopes I hear from Beth with more news. How about it, Beth???

1951

Mary "Betty" Cahill Strong made the big retirement move down south and now lives in Columbia, South Carolina. Her daughter and family live nearby. She also visits her son up north in New York and New Hampshire.

1956

Barb Maaloe Kelly-Yerdon splits her year between Richfield Springs and Braedenton, FL. She has retired and has been widowed and married again to her high school sweetheart. She sees her son and granddaughter in Westchester County and her daughter and her two children in Falls Church, VA. Thomasina Pagan Hannum continues to work occasionally as a consulant for Spanish Immersion programs and as a textbook author. She stays in touch with Esther Goldstein Printz, Ann Tobey 1955, Carole Rising Martin 1957, Sheila Lister Bamberger 1957, and Carole Hughes Summer.

1957

Marilyn DeSanta DeLorenzo travelled to England and Scotland with two other Chi Sigs in June 2004: Marilyn Leach Causey 1958 and Bernice O'Connor Ormsby.

1958

Arlene Murphy Adel Posses would like to contact those in the West Palm Beach Area Note: email me, Michele Nigriny. Marilyn Leach Causey says that, without the help of her Chi Sig sisters Bernice O'Connor Ormsby and Eileen Lally Purcell, she would never have been able to clear out her house for her move.

1960

Nancy (Lou) Ryan Knan contacted a list of sisters about their June reunion in 2005; she was given the list by Doris Hische Brossy.

1961

Lorna Wilson Verdone writes that she is well and her family is growing. She has three grandchildren and another due in May. She has travelled to Tuscany and to Florida several times.; she also takes a trip south during November to golf. Joan Ferrari Herman (Class Counselor) has retired from teaching. She stayed two extra years to coordinate an internship program and has gone on to travelling, golfing, quilting and barbershop singing. She ran into Maris Sheehan Hart 1961 in both Rome and Paris! She spends some time in Fort Pierce, FL. She has six grandchildren in Saratoga and Clifton Park.

1962

Abigail Duprey Wanzer and her husband have both retired from teaching at Massena Central High School. She spent some time subbing and as an adjunct prof in French at SUNY Potsdam. She is currently taking care of her soon-to-be-98-year-old mother.

1964

Esther Keith Mangino has been enjoying her retirement by travelling and volunteering. She likes spending time with her children and five grandchildren. Linda Tyrell Riblet writes that through the years, she has encountered two Chi Sigs: her sister's mother-in-law, Rosemary McGuire and another bridge player Virginia Brady. Susan VanHorn Shipherd is still a sales rep for Krackler Scientific. You will also find her name on the front page of this newsletter. She has six grandchildren, four of whom live in the Capital District. Her daughter Jillian has been diagnosed with MS but is doing well. She has a trip planned to Africa and India. Susan writes that she thinks this is a great example of seize the moment.

1965

Carolyn Brower Barrette has retired from being a Postmaster. She and husband Bob, have bought a new house in Wintergreen, VA. All four of her sons have married, and she has four grandsons. She tells us that Kathy Brown Hay 1967, Dianne Gregory 1967 and Diane Heilbrun Reiner 1968 visited her son's restaurant in Friday Harbor, WA. Kathy Betro Carroll has been enjoying her retirement; she and her husband recently travelled to Ireland to attend a wedding. She has one granddaughter. Mary Margaret Welker Young in in her 30th year of working for the Topps Co. and is looking forward to retirement. She tells us that she has sold her house in the historic district of Springfield MA and moved to a condo in CT. Her son, Paul, has married and is on temporary active duty. He lives in Arlington, VA. and is an Army Captain with the Defense Dept.

1966

Martha Claus writes that she has lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan for 30 years and is running her own business of selling fabric bags. She is still best friends with Fran Naccarato, her freshman roommate. Maria Tucci Testa has retired and is travelling, recently to South Africa. She has three married daughters and four grandsons and one more on the way. She has seen and/or keeps in touch with Sue Ohringer, Annette Paladino, and Maria Maniaci Rawe. Maria Maniaci Rawe asks us to give her best to all. She recently had visits with Michelle Miller Bloom 1967 and Carol Darby Siver 1965 when they passed through Atlanta. Per Maria: "It is so wonderful to reconnect with such meaningful people from our joyous past." Anne Digney Cinque got involved with helping the Tsunami survivors. She contacted us, and many of us who attended the June annual meeting made donations. She told us that sewing machines were purchsed with the money we donated. Naomi McElrath Woolsey has returned to the US and is living and working in DC. She is the grandmother of two girls, children of her daughter, Megan. Her son, Josh, is a vet student in Washington State. She has recently seen Sandy Urban Sidelko and Anne (Eleanor) Luden Latsch. Anne reports she loved her job and still misses the Minnesota State University students after three years away from university life.

1968

Michele Hughes Marcil has retired from teaching and is spending time with the grandkids. Heidi Norton Klinowski has recently quit her full-time job at the Junior museum and is now working three days a week at the Troy Country Club. She tells us that her stress level is waaaay down! Diane Heilbrun Reiner, now retired from working for the state, took an amazing trip in September to Iran and Syria. Organized by Academics for Peace, they even met former Iranian President Khatami and Syrian President Bashir Assad.

1969

Mary Prehn is a VP for Forest Laboratories in NYC. She travels a lot and says that her current record is three countries in one day.

1972

Debby Bloom Cole has been living outside Boston for the last seven years. Her daughter, Dana, is living in Cambidge and getting her Masters at Boston University School of Public Health. She sends regards to all her sisters from the early seventies.

1979

Cindy Hoffman has a busy dermatology practice and runs a residency program. He has three children. She would love to keep in contact with her sisters and the last ones she has been in touch with are Bonnie Gottlieb and Sharon Drell.
