In the 1881 Newcastle Parish Census Records it shows William's brother,
Andrew Hay, living in the same household as William and his children.
Andrew is listed as a widower and a farmer. Also living there were
Andrew's sons, George Hay, age 15 and Henry Hay, age 10. Andrew Hay died 9
April 1890 at the age of sixty-six. He was interred at Saint Peter and
Saint Paul's Cemetery 11 April 1890. Witnesses at the burial were George
Hay and Henry Hay, sons of the deceased. Also present were James and
Robert Hay. Priest: Fr. Morrisscy.
FT After Frederick James Hay, was born 8 November 1874, her was baptised 16 April 1875 at Saint Peter and Saint Paul's RC Church by Fr. Theberge. Sponsors: M. Drisdelle and Anne Henderson. FT Alice Ann Hay, b. Nov 30, 1865 per StM born 13 November 1865, baptised 26 March 1866 at Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Chatham, NB by Bishop Rogers. Sponsors: Andrew Hay and Ann Sharp. FT William Albert Hay, b. July 9, 1871 baptised 24 October 1871 at Saint Peter and Saint Paul's RC Church by Fr. Theberge. Sponsors: Joseph Dan Drisdelle and Judith Allain. FT John Henderson Hay, b. March 13, 1868 baptised 27 July 1868 at Saint Peter and Saint Paul's RC Church in Bartibogue by Fr. Theberge. Sponsors: Michael Allain and Margaret Innis. and died June 11, 1871 FT Alexander Taylor, a brother of Catherine Taylor(Alexander Hendersons wife). He was a prominent early figure on the Miramichi and a member of the provincial house of assembly. FT Alexander Henderson and Catherine Taylor Henderson, had 8 children. Those we know of are, in order of age: Patrick married Elizabeth ?___ abt 1794; he was one of the great merchants of Chatham. was the youngest of the 8 children. He was Baptized in Rothes Parish, Morayshire Scotland, March 4, 1771. He married Ann (Newman) McGregor and had at least 6 children. He was a successful vinter, owner of a profitable fishing business, and owned a considerable amount of property in Chatham, Northumberland County. Anna, who has been sending me this information, is a descendant of his daughter. One of George Henderson's(b. 1771) sons was a cabinet maker named Alexander James Henderson. (b circa 1811). George Henderson's grandson, John Henderson, apprenticed as a printer in the Daily Gleaner office in Chatham and went on to have a noteworthy career as foreman of the composing room and later as night editor of the New York Herald. In 1887-88 he was in Paris helping launch the European edition of the Herald, which became the outstanding English newspaper on the continent. FT The other surviving son of John Henderson & Ann Murdoch, (besides our ancestor, John Jr.) was another George Henderson. George was born in Miramichi, NB in 1797 and, in 1828, married Briseisis Newcomb, of Pictou, Nova Scotia. At the time as John Henderson Seniors estate was settled, George Henderson, age 26, built a fine new house in downtown Newcastle. From then onward, he was a leading retailer in the town dealing in groceries, dry goods and hardware. He was one of the first elders of the St. James Presbyterian Church, a parish school trustee, and one of Newcastles earliest fire wardens. In 1830 he was named Justice of the Peace. After George Hendersons death in 1836, at the age of 39, the widow took over the business in partnership with Simon Newcomb, (her father or her brother). In 1842 she closed the store. Her children, 2 sons and 1 daughter, all died of consumption between the ages of 19 to 22. |
